SRA Decoding B1, B2 and C: The decoding series focuses on teaching students to use letter sounds and blends to figure out how to say unknown words. Each lesson has decoding practice and then moves into leveled reading with frequent reading comprehension questions. At the end of each daily reading selection students will review, completing workbook pages asking questions about the section read and decoding practice.
Each week students will learn new vocabulary words, through, vocabulary mapping, matching, multiple choice, sentence writing and spelling.
To enforce spelling of vocabulary words we will use SpellingCityand Quizletto hear the words and sentences for each word while practicing spelling the words.
Starting the year off we will be learning to gather facts about a variety of topics. Students have independent reading. While reading independently they will be writing details about what they are reading. Once they are finished they will use their details to write a summary about it.

Each day after computers Mrs. Propst and Ms. Mailly's classes will join together. During this time students will listen to a short passage or chapter. Afterwards they will practice their discussion skills. Discussing what was read through listening to others and expressing their own thoughts.
